The much-awaited 'Avan Ivan' of Director

Bala recently witnessed its audio launch and the tracks are

already creating chartbusters.

The ace director who spoke

during the event expressed that

'Avan Ivan' will be a typical Bala

movie but also a laugh riot! His

earlier movie with two lead

stars, 'Pithamagan' featuring

Vikram and Suriya was a

blockbuster and also received

much critical acclaim. He

expressed his confidence that

'Avan Ivan' will be a similar hit

with two lead stars and spoke

of Vishal's efforts in acting as a

squint-eyed person in the

movie, a first of it's kind effort

taken internationally.

However, while answering

people of who acted best, Vishal

or Arya, he said there's someone

who has exhibited even more in

this movie, GM Kumar. Bala

vouched that if Sivaji Ganesan

were to be alive he would have

been so proud and glad

watching GM Kumar's

performance!

Thevvar' in 'Veyil' that created a

huge impact among audiences.

GM Kumar has contributed in

more than one way to

Kollywood. But, what made him

CM HOPE CENTRE TAKE ACTION ON UN SRILANKAN WAR CRIMES REPORT

CHENNAI: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president and
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Friday expressed hope that the Centre
would take appropriate
steps without any delay after
the United Nations report on
alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka
is officially released on April 25.
In a statement here, he rejected
AIADMK general secretary
Jayalalithaa's charge that his
fast in April 2009, seeking a halt
to military operations in Sri
Lanka, was mere eyewash.
He also criticised Ms. Jayalalithaa
for mocking at the
Parliamentarians' team he had
sent to the island nation to get
a first hand account of the
situation after the end of the
war.
Mr. Karunanidhi said he had
seen reports containing
extracts from the three-
member U.N. panel appointed
by U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-
Moon.
However, the full contents of
the report would be released
only on April 25. Even before
any details were out on what
follow-up action the UN
proposed to take or how the
Union government proposed to
respond, Ms. Jayalalithaa had
issued a statement about it.
"The people of Tamil Nadu will
not forget her own remarks
that during a war it was normal
for some civilians too to be
killed, " he said.
"I hope the Centre would
respond with suitable steps as
soon as the report is officially
released. I appeal to the Centre
to do so, " Mr. Karunanidhi said.

Popular Tamil actor Vikram, who was selected as Youth Envoy for United Nations Human Settlement Programme- 'UN Habitat', has expressed

happiness at his being chosen

from a long list of actors and

sportsmen."I am extremely proud and

grateful to have been chosen

from a long list of actors and sportsmen," he said.

He said his main role would be

to spread awareness about the

statutes of U.N Habitat which

include urban stabilisation. He

would also be required to help

formulate plans for effective

water management, slum

eradication and women and

youth empowerment.

Vikram also spoke about the

endeavours of his Vikram

Foundation.To commemorate

Earth Day today, he had planted

100 saplings at the YMCA in old

Mahabalipuram road.  This is part of his venture to

plant one lakh trees in one year

in and around Chennai.He said

these trees would be planted in

schools, colleges and even jails.

Another one of his projects is

to identify and rehabilitate

school dropouts.

He also plans to form a

committee for the purpose. The

committee would consist of

personnel from the corporate

sector, social services, NGOs and

social workers,he told reporters

here yesterday.

AIADMK FILLED A COMPLAINT AGAINST MK STALIN

Stung by Deputy Chief
Minister MK Stalin's reported
remark about the marital status
of AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa,
her party on Friday filed a
complaint against him with the
Election Commission demanding
immediate action.
Stalin's remark was "malicious
and was beyond all limits of
decency", the complaint, filed a
day after the EC issued a notice
to Jayalalithaa for allegedly
making personal remarks
against Tamil Nadu Chief
Minister M Karunanidhi, said.
AIADMK Rajya Sabha member PH
Manoj Pandian in a written
compliant to Tamil Nadu Chief
Electoral Officer, said Stalin
made "derogatory and
defamatory remarks" against
Jayalalithaa in Namakkal on
Friday last during a campaign
for the April 13 Assembly polls.
Quoting Stalin from a Tamil
daily as saying that the AIADMK
chief was not married and so
was not interested in funding
other women's weddings,
Pandian said it was "no way
connected with the public
activities of the leader."
Terming the speech as a "clear
violation of the Model Code of
Conduct," Pandian, who is also
State Advocate Wing Secretary
of AIADMK, demanded
immediate action against Stalin.
AIADMK has sought two days
time to reply to the EC's notice
to her. Jayalalithaa's ally and
DMDK leader Vijayakant has also
been slapped with similar notice
for his reported personal
attacks on Karunanidhi.

India beat Sri Lanka to win ICC World Cup 2011‎

MS Dhoni (91 not out) and Gautam Gambhir (97) helped India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets to win the ICC World Cup 2011 at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
Dhoni joined legendary Kapil Dev to lift the coveted trophy for India.

Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga dismissed Sachin Tendulkar (18) and Virender Sehwag (0) early to jolt the India run-chase. Tendulkar was going smoothly as he hit two fours in his 14-ball 18 innings before Malinga struck in the seventh over.

to the local problems such as drinking water shortage, power crisis and price rise dominating this election. In contrast most of the opinion polls conducted by mainstream national media have put the 2G scam on top. That reflects on the methodology adopted by the surveying agencies.

Headlines today survey
Headlines today – ORG have projected their predictions based on 2009 Lok Sabha elections and opinion poll on the issues of corruption, administration, killing of Indian fishermen and price rise. According to this method ADMK alliance will get 50 per cent of the vote share winning 164 seats and DMK alliance will get 45 per cent winning 68 seats only. Their conclusion is that 2G spectrum is a major set back to DMK. This was published on 31’st March and the size of the sample for Tamil Nadu in their survey is not known. The survey covered 14,000 respondents in 121 constituencies across the four States.

Kumudam survey
The Kumudam reporter a Tamil biweekly magazine has assessed 48.60 % support for AIADMK alliance and 41.70 % support for DMK alliance. This survey has concluded that 57% people consider price rise as an important problem when compared to 15% for 2G spectrum issue. This appears to be right.

Puthiya thalaimurai survey
A relatively new magazine Puthiya thalaimurai has published a survey taken with AC Neiilson, This survey reveals 49% wishing to vote for AIADMK alliance and 46% for DMK alliance. But at the same time both Karunanithi and Jayalalithaa got 43% support to become Chief Minister. Another 4% were for Vijayakanth. The publishers have admitted that the survey was conducted before conclusion of alliances and the onset of campaign, therefore the percentages are subject to change. This survey was conducted among 5000 voters in the first week of March.

Libya protests: 84 killed in growing unrest, says Human Rights Watch

Libya is one of several Arab countries to have experienced pro-democracy demonstrations since the fall of long-time Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in January. Egypt's Hosni Mubarak was forced from power on 11 February.

The number of people killed in three days of protests in Libya has risen to 84, according to the New York-based group Human Rights Watch.

Who has done a better job — Arya or Vishal?
Comparisons are not easy and they make me uncomfortable. As far as this film is concerned, there were no ego problems between both Vishal and Arya as both of them are good friends. Both placed immense trust in me and both had to be satisfied. I believe I have done that.

The biggest challenge directing Avan Ivan…
On a general note, the biggest problem with a double-hero film is the balancing act. I generally split the film into two halves and rate the roles. This is to ensure that I have given both equal screen space and importance in the film. If one of them falls short on any of the counts, I then look at introducing dialogues or incidents to raise the stature of that character and balance the whole equation.

On the delay in completing the film…
I will blame the responsibilities that I have for the delay. I sincerely want to lift the stature of anybody who chooses to work with me at least four fold. And when I persevere to do so, it results in a delay. There has been a delay in completing Avan Ivan too, but it is a small one. I realise its implications and take full responsibility for it. But at the same time, I’m happy that I have raised the stature of Avan Ivan’s artistes ten-fold.

What can fans expect from Avan Ivan…
Avan Ivan is a film that will make you roar with laughter for the most part. Occasionally, you may cry but finally, you will be shocked. All that I’ll say at this point is that this film’s a sure-shot winner. I might come in for some criticism from some intellectuals who might ask me, ‘Do you need this?’ However, at this point, I don’t need intellectuals. I need success!

On his unforgiving working style…
I don’t think I have the right to say I work hard and that I strain myself. I get paid, don’t I? Then, what have I got to complain? My producer Aghoram had so much trust in me that he hardly turned up on the sets during the entire filming session. In all, I think he would have visited us only thrice and that too, for only ten minutes.

Any intentions of making a Hindi film…
I don’t want to be dependent on others. If I learn the language and if I have the capacity to learn it, I might do a film. At the moment, I’m learning the language. I know to read and write but I don’t know to speak.

On October 9th, 1967,Ernesto "Che" Guevara was put to death by Bolivian soldiers, trained, equipped and guided by U.S. Green Beret and CIA operatives. His execution remains a historic and controversial event; and thirty years later, the circumstances of his guerrilla foray into Bolivia, his capture, killing, and burial are still the subject of intense public interest and discussion around the world.

As part of the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Che Guevara, the National Security Archive's Cuba Documentation Project is posting a selection of key CIA, State Department, and Pentagon documentation relating to Guevara and his death. This electronic documents book is compiled from declassified records obtained by the National Security Archive, and by authors of two new books on Guevara: Jorge Castañeda's Compañero: The Life and Death of Che Guevara (Knopf), and Henry Butterfield Ryan's The Fall of Che Guevara (Oxford University Press). The selected documents, presented in order of the events they depict, provide only a partial picture of U.S. intelligence and military assessments, reports and extensive operations to track and "destroy" Che Guevara's guerrillas in Bolivia; thousands of CIA and military records on Guevara remain classified. But they do offer significant and valuable information on the high-level U.S. interest in tracking his revolutionary activities, and U.S. and Bolivian actions leading up to his death.
